“Folding For Peace” Origami Flower Garden

This white paper garden in Nagasaki, Japan was inspired by the Japanese legend that guarantees good fortune in life and health, in the form of a wish, to anyone who practices the paper folding art of origami to create one thousand cranes. The outdoor installation represents a wish for world peace, designed by Swiss designer Anouk Vogel.

time for a pep talk:

Shannon,

Although you are leaving for Belize in a few days and still have a lot to do before you leave, before you focus on packing, YOU NEED TO FUCKING STUDY FOR YOUR FINALS TOMORROW! Yes, you just want to make out with your boyfriend and stare at him. Yes, you just want to lay in bed with your puppies and take them to play in the park. Yes, you want to hang out with your friends and get as much time as possible with them…Yes, Yes, Yes, you want to do anything BUT study, but you need to reach down deep below your lazy ass desires to procrastinate and read j. tillman interviews and get to work on your study guides.

Then, you need to write that god damn paper.

After that, I will set you to prepare for your journey abroad, but until then you are fucking mine. No more facebook, no more reading father john misty lyrics over and over, and no more being too stressed to do anything….

you get everything you want when you set your mind to it, and right now i want to kick these finals’ ass.

Love,

 last hope for this semester

This photograph belongs to the series Frank made and published in his great book Les Américans (1958)—an unvarnished look at this country as it revealed itself to the Swiss-born photographer on a series of road trips he made in 1955 and 1956, funded by Guggenheim fellowships. The quintessential evocation of life on the road, this image is both dynamic and solemn; the lines of the highway plunging toward the glowing horizon create a sense of movement, while the car of a lone traveler—barely visible at the top of the image—and the vast emptiness of the desolate New Mexico landscape communicate a powerful sense of isolation.
